Hanken Grotesk is a sans serif typeface inspired by the classic grotesques. Geometry, metrics, punctuations and OpenType features have been updated to support a wide range of projects such as environmental signage, textface for books and magazines, Interface, Websites and Mobile Applications.

The Hanken Grotesk project is led by Alfredo Marco Pradil.

Designers

Alfredo Marco Pradil is a type designer and founder of Hanken Design Co.® foundry. He graduated with a Fine Arts degree at Batangas State University and has been designing typefaces since 2012. His custom typeface work includes the Alienware® typeface for Dell®, Extremis Compakt for furniture design company Extremis®, and Ampersans for Ace & Tate.

Hanken Design Co.® was founded in 2013 and has its roots in Batangas, Philippines. Their versatile collection includes both retail and custom fonts. HDC has managed to produce typefaces that possess uniqueness and humanistic qualities. Some of the foundry’s notable and widely used fonts include HK Grotesk, Glacial Indifference, Now, and Cerebri Sans.

Choosing type

When you have some text, how can you choose a typeface? Many people—professional designers included—go through an app’s font menu until we find one we like. But the aim of this Google Fonts Knowledge module is to show that there are many considerations that can improve our type choices. By setting some useful constraints to aid our type selection, we can also develop a critical eye for analyzing type along the way.
